It’s Spotlight number 4 for the original Synchedin Spotlight artist this week. With such a talented musician and producer, consistently releasing fantastic tracks, it’s not hard to see why. Sizzle Bird, aka Ot Moruno-Bird, has continued his form of releasing predominantly instrumental music, often heavily featuring strings. This comes as no surprise, since the artist has his background in classical music as a violinist himself.

This week’s Christmas Eve Spotlight takes a rather more electronic approach. If you fancied a break from sleigh bells and chiming glockenspiels, this track is for you. Replacing choirs and brass bands with layers upon layers of synth sounds, Christmas Cracker is a liquid drum and bass infused nod to Christmas.

Twinkling synth opens the track, giving a winter wonderland feel right off the bat. A descending sequence underpins the introduction, as mildly swelling chords lay over the top. A steady, jangly tambourine beat contributes to the initial building energy. Then, we leave any trace of traditional Christmas behind.

The piano carries through to the next section, jumping about sparsely as a new synth sound interjects sporadically. Tambourine has been exchanged for a building electronic drum beat. This then explodes into full throttle DnB percussion, accompanied by ambient synth pads and that interjecting melodic synth.

Traditional sounding piano takes over from the layers of melodic synth and adorning elements, leaving the high octane drums to juxtapose the airy pads. This creates a soaring sense of space and freedom, before we’re then plunged back into that winter wonderland moment first heard in the intro.

A repeating of sections ensures the energy in Christmas Cracker never dips. This Spotlight track is the perfect alternative festive musical accompaniment. Its high energy and relentless drive makes it ideal for winter sports videos or exciting travel vlogs.
