Instagram is testing a new feature which will allow users to finally post to their feeds via their desktop. Get the full details here!

After a little over a decade of the app launching, Facebook Inc. have begun testing a new feature on Instagram. Until now, the app has revolved around the idea of people sharing photos directly from their phones, documenting experiences as and when they are taking place. However, the nature of the way people use and interact with the app has changed.

The number of Instagram accounts set up for businesses and influencers is ever-increasing. Small businesses use Instagram for social media marketing, and utilise it to strengthen their branding and online presence. Users are uploading highly edited images, sometimes posting content that has been planned for hours, days, even weeks.

The implications of Instagram testing this new desktop feature could spell a broader overall change in direction for the app. Spokesperson, Christine Pai told Bloomberg,

“We know that many people access Instagram from their computer. To improve that experience, we’re now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser.”

Matt Navara, a social media consultant, was among the first to spot the new test feature on Instagram.

It appears that the feature will enable users to select aspect ratios and apply filters. It’s unclear as yet whether the desktop posting options will be as varied and advanced as the in-app options.

Instagram testing new features such as this suggests further attempts to compete with YouTube and TikTok to be the content creator’s favourite.
