Apple Sets Macro Challenge for iPhone 13 Pro Users
Apple has invited iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max users to take part in a macro challenge, putting their photography skills to the test. Get the full details here!
Yesterday (25th January), Apple announced details of a photography competition, the Shot on iPhone Challenge. The challenge began yesterday, and will run until the 16th of February. Winners will be announced in April.
This challenge promotes the latest iterations of the iPhone, the 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Other models of iPhone are not eligible to take part, as they do not feature a macro mode.
How to Take a Macro Shot
Macro, or extreme close up photography, tends to involve incredibly small objects or creatures. However, this type of photography is also great for capturing the finer details or larger subjects.
To take a macro shot on an iPhone 13, you need to get up close and personal with your subject. Any closer than two centimetres, though, and your shot can become blurred. Place the primary point of focus near the centre of the frame in order to get the sharpest image. You have the option to take photos in x0.5 or x1, with the former giving you the widest field of vision.
Shot on iPhone Challenge
There will be not 1 winner but 10. The photos will be judged by a panel of 10, made up of award-winning photographers, filmmakers and Apple experts.
Apple has said that the winning images will feature on their website, in a gallery on Apple Newsroom, and on the Apple Instagram account. The company also stated that winning photos of the macro challenge could be used in Apple campaigns, billboards, or even public exhibitions.
Contestants can enter the competition by sharing their photos on Instagram, Twitter, or Weibo, and use the hashtags #ShotoniPhone and #iPhonemacrochallenge.
The winners of the Shot on iPhone Challenge will be compensated for the rights to their photographs. Previously, Apple ran a competition which resulted in winners giving the rights to their works away to the company for free. Fortunately, Apple though better of this and offered a license fee to the winners. Learning from this, they have offered remuneration from the get go.
