Some big announcements were made yesterday as part of the first Nintendo Direct of 2022. Find out all the most exciting news right here!

Riding high from the recent release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Nintendo revealed their upcoming plans and releases for the year ahead. The Direct, which is a series of presentations or livestreams produced by Nintendo, was 40 minutes long and featured some juicy surprises.

If you missed out yesterday, we’ve got all the major announcements here for you!

Nintendo Switch Sports

One of Nintendo’s biggest sellers, Wii Sports will be making a comeback. This time, for the Switch. You’ll see a lot of familiar games, along with the same motion controls. You can get your active gaming on from the 29th of April.

Mario Kart 8 DLC

Mario Kart fans, rejoice. Or, get a bit excited, at least. It isn’t quite a Mario Kart 9, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will be enjoying a swathe of new (old) tracks. 48, to be precise. This wave of tracks will be released gradually over the next 2 years.

Nintendo is no stranger to revamping old games, just take Pac-Man 99, for example. The paid Mario DLC (downloadable content) will feature remastered versions of classic tracks from previous iterations of Mario Kart. Expect the first wave on the 18th of March.

Mario Strikers

After a bit of a hiatus, the Mario soccer spin off is back. Mario Strikers: Battle League is the sequel to the popular GameCube original. It looks just as fun and wacky as you’d expect, with similar game play to Mario Kart, except with a football. Up to 8 players can get involved in the game, which is available from the 10th of June.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Not too much has been given away with this one. The third instalment of the sci-fi role playing series, Xenoblade Chronicles is set to launch on Switch in September. The prequel to this was released in 2017, so fans will be pleased after a 5-year wait.

Fired Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

Arriving in June, this follow up to the 2019 tactical RPG Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Houses will offer a new story, but set in the same universe.
