The internationally famous conference is expanding beyond its original home of Austin, Texas. Say, “hello” to SXSW Australia!

Announcing the news in a post yesterday, SXSW revealed it would be bringing its conference to Sydney, Australia in 2023. The 7-day event is a celebration of the tech, film, and music industries. It has highlighted projects from revered industry pros, as well as championed fresh newcomers.

The new Australian conference will take place across 7 nights from October 15th-23rd 2023. We can expect to see an exploration into Music, Screen, Gaming, Techonology, and Innovation. As with the Austin event, creators will not want to miss this event.

Following form from the original conference, there will be demonstrations, keynote conversations, and panels. Professionals seeking to discover new trends, emerging technology, or access unrivalled networking opportunities can do so at the new Asia-Pacific location.

SXSW, in its original form, has taken place every March since 1987. The conference moved online in 2021 due to Covid-19, but its never missed a year. The Australian event is in partnership with events management company TEG, and the New South Wales Government via Destination NSW. Speaking on the new SXSW Australia, CEO of SXSW Roland Swenson said:

“We couldn’t be more excited and honored to work with TEG and the New South Wales Government via Destination NSW on an event that brings to Australia the professional opportunities and unexpected discoveries that make SXSW unique. The purpose of SXSW is to help creative people achieve their goals, and Sydney is the ideal city to serve as a home for the cross-collaboration that exists within the many industries we bring together.”

Past speakers of SXSW have included Barrack Obama, Snoop Dogg, Taika Waititi, and Lady Gaga. Programming announcements for SXSW Australia will be made in the coming months, according to Hugh Forrest, interactive director at SXSW.
