Undisputed king of royalty free music, Kevin MacLeod, delivers the chills with their unnervingly spooky horror soundscape Bent and Broken.

Kevin MacLeod is an American composer and musician. Since 1999, MacLeod has composed royalty-free library music, and continues to do so to this very day. To date, he currently has over 2,000 published compositions under his belt.

Born in 1972, Kevin MacLeod has a wealth of compositional experience to his name. There is an extremely high chance you have heard his music before. Be it in a documentary, Instagram reel, or YouTube video, almost everyone has come across Kevin MacLeod’s music before in their life, you just may not have been aware of it!

This week’s Synchedin Spotlight is Bent and Broken by Kevin MacLeod. Our Spotlight track begins this week, with a sinister sounding bowed metallic sound. Already, it is clear that MacLeod is ready to dish out some seriously scary sounds.

Similar to our own Spooky Sound Effects Showreels, MacLeod begins to introduce and fade out different sonic elements, each more unsettling than the last. A white noise synth with an LFO (low frequency oscillator), causing a stutter type effect, particularly stands out in the sound design of this piece.

Bent and Broken by Kevin MacLeod continues to grow more sinister and dark as each new piercing, unnerving element is added. It’s very easy to hear how this week’s Synchedin Spotlight would be amazing to use in a short horror film.
