Got some great video content ideas and a semi-decent camera? Here’s how to start a channel on YouTube, so you can kick off your vlogging career!

We’re a bit obsessed with all things content creation, here at Synchedin. That means we’ve got plenty of helpful tips and advice on how to handle things on YouTube. From finding your style as a content creator, to understanding analytics in order to grow your channel.

Since royalty free music is kind of our main deal, we’re pretty knowledgable when it comes to copyright claims and strikes, and how to safely and legally earn money through YouTube. But, before you need to worry about any of this, you actually need a YouTube channel.

The beauty of YouTube is that it’s completely free for anyone to use. You can upload and share videos on pretty much any topic, provided it’s within YouTube’s community guidelines. There might be a few things to consider as you’re getting started, like what to name your channel, but the actual setting up isn’t difficult. Allow us to walk you through how to start a channel on YouTube!

Setting Up Your Channel

Creating a personal channel is super straightforward. You’ll just need a Google account (if you don’t have one already, you can easily create one when signing up to YouTube).

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or the mobile site.
  2. Click on your profile picture  and then Create a channel
  3. You’ll be asked to create a channel.
  4. Check the details (with your Google Account name and photo) and confirm to create your channel.

This type of account will belong solely to you, and can only be managed by you. If you’d like to create a channel for a business or other name, follow these steps.

You can connect your channel to a Brand Account if you want to use a different name on YouTube than your Google Account. Learn more about Brand Accounts

  1. Sign in to YouTube on a computer or the mobile site.
  2. Go to your channel list.
  3. Choose to create a new channel or use an existing Brand Account:
    • Create a channel by clicking Create a new channel.
    • Create a YouTube channel for a Brand Account that you already manage by choosing the Brand Account from the list. If this Brand Account already has a channel, you can’t create a new one. When you select the Brand Account from the list, you’ll be switched over to that channel.
  4. Fill in the details to name your new channel. Then, click Create. This will create a new Brand Account.
  5. To add a channel manager, follow the instructions to change channel owners and managers.
